Cross Border Gambling Scam Targets Bangladesh Youth

A cross-border gambling scam is targeting young people in Bangladesh, using mobile games and betting platforms disguised as entertainment apps. Authorities say the scammers are exploiting digital payment systems and social media trends to trap users.

Many victims are aged between 18 and 30, lured by promises of instant rewards and daily cashbacks. Once engaged, users are pushed to deposit money, often using bKash or UPI-linked wallets. When trying to withdraw, they face delays, manipulation, or outright bans.

The scam reportedly involves operators from India and Malaysia, using remote teams and chat support to maintain the illusion of legitimacy. Some platforms even use influencers to promote games that are later revealed to be rigged.

Experts believe this kind of fraud is increasing due to poor digital literacy and a lack of regulation on offshore gambling apps. Calls are growing for stricter screening of gaming apps and better public awareness in schools and colleges.
