Authorities in Bangladesh are raising alarms about the growing use of cryptocurrency to launder proceeds from illegal online gambling. Scammers use digital wallets to convert gambling deposits into Bitcoin or Tether, which are then transferred to foreign wallets.
Investigations show that gambling websites offer crypto withdrawal options to users in exchange for higher fees. These platforms often have links to offshore exchanges with little to no regulatory oversight.
The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit has warned that this method bypasses all banking systems, making it nearly impossible to trace the flow of money. Many crypto wallets are created using fake identities, enabling anonymity for both operators and users.
Experts recommend stricter monitoring of local exchanges and educating the public on the risks of using cryptocurrency for gambling.
