School Students in Bangladesh Lured Into Gambling Apps

Authorities in Bangladesh are alarmed by a disturbing trend—gambling apps targeting school-aged children. Disguised as harmless mobile games, these apps promote in-game purchases that are later converted into betting credits.

Once engaged, students are tempted by promises of free spins, cash prizes, and bonuses for referrals. Many of these apps operate on Telegram or unofficial websites, avoiding detection by app stores or regulators.

Parents report noticing changes in behavior, declining academic performance, and missing money from digital wallets. In some cases, students stole from relatives to fund their betting habits.

Social workers are calling for digital literacy programs in schools and more parental control tools to prevent early exposure to gambling content online.
