Nepal Introduces Anti-Gambling Laws

In November 2024, Nepal’s government enacted new legislation targeting illegal gambling. This law represents one of the country’s most stringent measures to date, aiming to curtail both physical and online gambling operations.

The legislation imposes hefty fines and prison sentences for those found operating or participating in unlicensed gambling activities. Law enforcement agencies have been empowered to conduct raids and monitor digital platforms, ensuring compliance with the new regulations.

Officials have highlighted the social and economic benefits of these measures, noting their potential to reduce crime rates and protect vulnerable communities. Public awareness campaigns are also being rolled out to educate citizens about the risks of gambling and the penalties for violating the law.

Nepal’s proactive stance reflects a growing recognition of gambling’s negative impact on society. By prioritizing enforcement and education, the country aims to set an example for neighboring nations.
