Fake Lottery Schemes Resurface in Rural Bangladesh

Online fraudsters have revived fake lottery scams in rural areas of Bangladesh, claiming users have won large sums through government schemes. Victims are asked to pay a “processing fee” via bKash or Nagad to claim their reward.

The scam often spreads via SMS and WhatsApp, using forged government seals and fake websites. Many villagers fall victim due to low digital literacy and a strong desire for financial relief.

Officials urge citizens to avoid responding to unknown messages and to report any suspicious lottery claims to local police or mobile service providers.
