Online Lottery Apps Target Low-Income Workers in Bangladesh

In recent years, a surge of mobile lottery apps has taken hold across Bangladesh, specifically targeting low-income workers with promises of instant wealth. These platforms, often disguised as entertainment or quiz apps, encourage users to deposit small amounts to participate in draws with flashy interfaces and misleading advertisements.

Most victims are day laborers, rickshaw pullers, or garment workers who lose their limited earnings chasing false jackpots. Many users report never receiving winnings or being unable to withdraw money, exposing the fraudulent nature of these platforms.

The government has started monitoring app stores and mobile payment gateways but lacks comprehensive digital regulation. Public awareness campaigns are being proposed to protect economically vulnerable groups from these manipulative gambling schemes.
