Gambling Apps Masquerade as E-Learning Tools

Several apps available in app stores claim to offer language learning, quizzes, or IQ tests — but actually operate as hidden gambling platforms. These apps primarily target school and college students in Bangladesh.

Users are lured into playing “games” where each correct answer earns money, but withdrawal requires upfront deposits or turns into a roulette-style bet. Once users deposit, accounts are locked or deleted.

Cybersecurity researchers warn that such deceptive UI designs violate consumer rights and are calling for app store audits and stricter oversight in the edtech category.
